Democratising food and agricultural research

The Food Ethics Council magazine made a collection of articles that addresses key questions about how the research agenda is set in food and farming, that unmasks and challenges the dominant research paradigm, and that highlights inclusive alternatives to deliver public good. Among the inclusive alternatives, Michel Pimbert argues that there is nothing less needed than a paradigm revolution to democratise food and agricultural research for the common good and the wellbeing of the planet. His argument was developped under seven points:

  • Grassroots innovation and self-managed research
  • Democratisation and transformation of public research
  • Citizens at the heart of decision making in research
  • Transdisciplinarity and methodological pluralism in research
  • Professional reversals and organisational transformation
  • Protecting public research from privatisation and corporate control
  • Reclaiming universities as a commons for knowledge democracy
