The evaluation of ecosystem services has become, in recent decades, an important framework for socio-ecological research. The present work makes an approximation to the Huerta de Murcia as a territory where, historically, the ecosystem and society have co-evolved, configuring the current socio-ecosystem.

Although there are numerous studies of different nature on the Huerta de Murcia, this is the first work that addresses it from the integral perspective as a socio-ecosystem, analyzing the evolution of the provision of 31 ecosystem services in the successive historical periods, based on the different drivers of change that have starred in these periods. The analysis of the socio-ecological history of the Huerta de Murcia and the provision of services in each phase, was made through the literature review, establishing a total of 8 historical periods. The results show a remarkable variability in the provision of services throughout history, being in the last phase where the loss of supply services and regulation has been alarming in the face of a notable increase in cultural services. The results obtained can provide useful information for the management of this unique socio-ecosystem.
