Diampoulo Diallo - an innovative farm in Senegal

The farm is located in the village of Katob, in the commune of Ndoga Babacar, in the Tambacounda region.

Mr. Diampoulo Diallo's family farm in eastern Senegal has been implementing an agroecological transition for about ten years, integrating agriculture and livestock into a self-sufficient system.

On more than 2 hectares, the farm practices assisted natural regeneration by combining the presence of trees in the fields to contribute to soil enrichment. Soil fertilisation is carried out by keeping livestock on the farm plots for about ten days. The animals feed on the plantation residues. The head of the farm is a member of the Yakaar Niani Wulli federation of producers (a peasant organisation), whose objective is to ensure the empowerment of communities in the fight against poverty, while respecting local values.

The sharing of ecological production techniques has improved exchanges in the village as well as solidarity through the sharing of cereal seeds in particular. The farm effectively manages soil fertility through the use of organic fertilizer, crop rotation and the abandonment of clearing by burning. This improved fertility management means that the farm is less affected by rainfall. Assisted natural regeneration contributes to the mitigation of soil degradation.

This sheet is produced within the framework of the Avaclim project, which aims to create the necessary conditions for the deployment of agroecology in drylands. The international solidarity association CARI coordinates the Avaclim project while Environnement Développement Action pour la Protection Naturelle des Terroirs (ENDA Pronat) is in charge of its implementation in Senegal.
