Agroecological stories from practices and experiences of farmers in Ethiopia

Agroecology enables the improvement of agricultural production through the enhancement of local natural resources and traditional know-how. It contributes to maintaining biodiversity and restoring land in drylands, which are particularly threatened by global warming and food insecurity, while contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Within the framework of the AVACLIM project, the Ethiopian organization ISD and its partners present here through their practices and experiences that agroecology :

- Contributes to the economic performance of farms

- Contributes to the empowerment of women - Improves the resilience of agricultural systems

The Avaclim project – funded by the Global Environment Facility (implemented through FAO) and the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM, implemented through CARI), and executed by CARI and its partners – aims to create the necessary conditions for the deployment of agroecology in arid areas. Practitioners, farmers and scientists are studying agroecological initiatives in seven countries (Burkina Faso, Senegal, Morocco, Ethiopia, South Africa, Brazil, India) to promote agroecology to political authorities and intergovernmental bodies and to support the productivity of agroecosystems for food security, agricultural livelihoods and reduce environmental degradation and greenhouse gas emissions.
