The National Food Security Act fully implemented in India

The National Food Security Act (NFSA) was rolled out in Kerala and Tamil Nadu states on 3 November, marking the implementation of the Act in all states and union territories of the country. The NFSA was first passed in September 2013 and since then has gradually been introduced in all states and territories (FPMA Food Policies). Under the scheme, 813.4 million people countrywide will now be entitled to receive 5 kilograms of food grains per person per month at a subsidized price of INR 3 (USD 0.04) for rice, INR 2 (USD 0.03) for wheat and INR 1 (USD 0.01) for coarse grains. At the current level of coverage, monthly allocation of food cereals to states and union territories under the Act is of about 4.55 million tonnes. The NFSA aims to ensure access to an adequate quantity of quality food at an affordable price to all eligible persons.
