FAO and its Global Soil Partnership are organizing a 3-day session in the framework of its International Network on Soil Pollution (INSOP). Members of the network will review the progress done by the network, discuss and identify the priorities, develop the work plan for 2023-2024 and strengthen the cooperation between the members of INSOP. 

Several guest speakers have been invited on the second day to discuss and bring attention to the following topics:

• Soil pollution remediation in Africa: challenges and steps to be taken (Dr Isabel Weiersbye, University of the Witwatersrand);
• Mapping PFAS in Europe (Ms Stéphane Horel, Le Monde);
• Soil pollutants, food contamination and health impacts (Prof Wong Ming-hung, Hong Kong Baptist University);
• Identifying and monitoring lead and mercury-polluted soils (Dr Gordon Binkhorst, Pure Earth); 
• Soil and water pollution in the One Health approach (Dr Sasha KooOshima, FAO).

Furthermore, leaders for the INSOP’s working areas will be elected. If you are interested in becoming a leader in one of the working areas, please send me your CV for consideration. During the meeting, candidates will have 3-5 minutes to talk about their experience and motivation on why they want to be the working area leader. This will be followed by a vote of the members.
