WaPOR dataset now also available in Earth Engine Public Data Catalog

Earth Engine Data Catalog is now offering in its public catalog data from WaPOR, FAO’s portal to monitor Water Productivity through Open-access of Remotely sensed derived data, which monitors and reports on agriculture water productivity over Africa and the Near East. Earth Engine's public data catalog includes a variety of standard Earth science raster datasets. The new set of WaPOR data now accessible from the Earth Engine are part of the Continental Level resolution (250 m) at dekadal time step: Actual Evapotranspiration and Interception, Net Primary Production, Transpiration, and Reference Evapotranspiration (both daily and dekadal). These data can be imported into script environments, where raster or vector data can be uploaded for private use or for sharing into scripts.

FAO WaPOR portal allows for direct data queries, time series analyses, area statistics and data download of key variables associated to water and land productivity assessments. It supports for calculation and distribution of key data for monitoring and understanding water use in agriculture. In this way, governments and farmers get reliable information to support decisions and targeted interventions on more efficient use of water: Government agencies use it to monitor the state of their natural resource base and promote their efficient use. Service providers use it to assist farmers in obtaining more reliable yields by monitoring crop status and vegetation trends.
