Colleagues and Friends, welcome to the FAO Liaison Office with the United Nations in New York. This page aims to provide you with logistical information which you may find useful during your visit to LON.
Access to the UN premises and other building occupied by UN-affiliated departments and organizations are allowed to persons bearing a UN-issued ID of a UNLP. LON recommends that visitors obtain the UN ID.
Prior to arrival in New York, please inform us of your upcoming travel, purpose of visit and duration of stay. A documentation for a request for a UN building pass will be processed prior to your arrival. Please visit the FAO Office to either claim your building pass (for those who are already encoded in the security system) or to get assistance in processing your pass. The process involves going to the Pass and ID Unit for a one-time photo-op and usually takes 5-10 minutes. Waiting time varies from 20 minutes to an hour if there is a long queue. The Pass and ID Unit is open from 9am - 4pm.
LON is located on the 11th floor of the DC1 building (also called One United Nations Plaza) at the corner of 1st Avenue and 44th St and the office is open usually from 9am - 5pm. The phone number to reach us is 212 963 6036.
Assistance in hotel bookings is provided by LON upon request. Note that in New York, a credit card is necessary to reserve a booking. Hotel cancellation policies usually ask for 24-hours cancellation prior to the first day of the booking. Please inform us of your upcoming travel, duration of stay and payment details. Cheaper hotel rates could be obtained through online booking sources as well. Click the 2007 UNICEF hotel directory to view a list of hotels close to the UN area. Please note that rates are not guaranteed and should be used as a guideline.
