Prospects for main season crops for harvest from April are unfavourable to poor in several Southern African countries. Serious rainfall deficits since mid-December have seriously affected maize and other cereal crops in main producing areas of Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe at the critical stage of the growing period (for details see GIEWS Country Briefs).
