New Business Model of Cooperation: Hand in Hand and other Initiatives

Wednesday, 4th December 2019 from 13.00 to 14.00
Sheikh Zayed Centre

About the event:

The Joint Meeting of the 127th Session of the Programme Committee and 178th Session of the Finance Committee welcomed the Hand-in-Hand Initiative as a tool to accelerate the realization of SDGs 1 and 2 in countries that need it the most. We have prioritized some of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Least Developed Countries (LLDCs), Least Developed Small Island Developing States (SIDS), food crisis countries, and less developed and largely populated countries where we would be working at the sub-national level.

The initiative will contribute to closing the food gap, support economic development, end malnutrition and reduce environmental impact, through a “matchmaking” mechanism that brings together countries with the highest poverty and hunger rates with developed countries to achieve SDG1 target 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 and SDG2 targets 2.1 and 2.2.

Building partnerships at all levels, the Hand-in-Hand initiative is a country owned initiative and  will channel commitment between recipient and donor countries, coordinate with multilateral development banks, UN agencies, and other key stakeholders.

The Director-General, Mr QU Dongyu will attend the Side Event.
