“Gender and Livestock”: AGA-ESP-SFS workshop, Harare, Zimbabwe, 2 -4 December 2014

The Animal Production and Health Division (AGA) and the Social Protection Division (ESP), in collaboration with the Regional Office for Africa (RAF) and the Subregional Office for Southern Africa (SFS), are jointly organizing a regional training workshop on “Gender and Livestock”. The workshop will be held in Harare, Zimbabwe, from the 2 to 4 December 2014.

Participants will be drawn from FAO offices and ministries responsible for livestock from the following countries: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The main goals of the training are to:

  • strengthen the capacity of FAO livestock experts in DOs and national representatives from ministries of livestock and equivalent, to address and integrate gender issues in livestock programmes and projects, with a view of enhancing the quality, effectiveness and responsiveness of livestock-related interventions, bettering the livelihood of both rural women and men livestock-keepers;
  • collect best practices and lessons learned on gender and livestock in South Africa;
  • produce country workplans on gender and livestock, jointly between FAO country livestock experts and their national counterparts in ministries of livestock and equivalent.
