The Federal University of Roraima (Universidade Federal de Roraima, or UFRR) is a public federal university located in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil. Founded in 1989, it offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs in areas such as natural sciences, engineering, health sciences, social sciences, humanities, and education. The university is committed to academic excellence, research, and regional development, with a focus on addressing social, environmental, and economic challenges in Roraima and northern Brazil. UFRR plays a key role in fostering innovation, community engagement, and the training of skilled professionals to contribute to sustainable growth and development in the state and the broader Amazon region.
The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRR) was the first Brazilian attempt to create a federal university without the availability of pre-existing institutions that could be incorporated into the university structure. As the first higher education institution in the state of Roraima, its establishment required technical and scientific training, which until 1989 was only available to members of the Roraima community who could afford to study in other Brazilian states.
In March 1990, UFRR's academic and administrative activities began in an area provided by the State Government, which today constitutes the Paricarana Campus , consisting of a semi-finished building, a building under construction and a third building in the initial stage of construction, which are now called Block I, Block II and Block III, respectively.
