The University of the Philippines (UP), established in 1908, is the Philippines' national university and a leading institution of higher education, comprising eight constituent universities and one autonomous college across 23 campuses.

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), a constituent university of the UP System, is internationally recognized for its excellence in agriculture, forestry, environmental management, and veterinary medicine. Through institutions such as the UPLB National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH), it has contributed to advances in agricultural, environmental, and health biotechnology.
UPLB also hosts the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), promoting graduate education, research, and knowledge exchange in agriculture and natural resources across Southeast Asia.

The UPLB University Library supports the university’s research and extension activities and has served as the National Center for AGRIS in the Philippines since 1975. As an AGRIS Resource Center, it plays an important role in collecting, organizing, and sharing agricultural information within the global AGRIS network.
