The Indio Hatuey Experimental Station for Pastures and Forage was inaugurated on March 8, 1962, becoming the first scientific institution in Cuba dedicated to agricultural research. It is affiliated with the University of Matanzas and has a distinguished team of researchers. Today, the center serves as a laboratory for agroecological systems and low‑environmental‑impact agricultural models that help mitigate climate change.
