The Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences(RAACS) was established by a decree of the President of the Russian Federation on March 26, 1992; its precursors were the Academy of Architecture of the USSR (1934–1956) and the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the USSR (1956–1964).

The Scientific Research Institute of Construction Physics of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAACS) was established in July 1956 as the Research Institute of Building Physics and Enclosing Structures of the Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the USSR as a non-profit organization - a federal state budgetary institution.

Central Research and Design Institute for Urban Planning of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences was founded in 1931 as part of Soviet efforts to systematize urban planning and architectural design. In 2017, the institute was merged with other design and research bodies into the Central Research and Design Institute of the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation.
