UkrNDIPVT was founded in 1948 as the Ukrainian State Zonal Machine‑Testing Station (УкрМВС), part of Soviet agricultural infrastructure.
From 1991, the institute became UkrNDIPVT—the national body for forecasting and testing agricultural machinery and technologies. On December 26, 2003, it was formally named after academician Leonid Pogorilyy, a leading Ukrainian scientist in agro‑engineering.
