SciELO Preprints is a free and open-access preprint server launched in 2020 as part of the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) program. It was created to provide researchers, especially from Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and South Africa, with a platform to share early versions of their scientific manuscripts before undergoing formal peer review. The platform accepts submissions in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and covers a wide range of academic disciplines. SciELO Preprints aims to increase the visibility, accessibility, and timeliness of regional research by enabling authors to disseminate their findings quickly and openly. All preprints receive a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and undergo basic editorial screening, though they are not peer-reviewed at this stage. The initiative reflects SciELO’s broader mission to strengthen scientific communication and foster the integration of regional science into the global research ecosystem.
