What is agroecology?
Agroecology is a holistic and integrated approach that blends ecological and social principles in the development and re-design of sustainable agrifood systems. It seeks to optimize the interaction between plants, animals, humans, and the environment while promoting socially inclusive food systems, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their dietary preferences and the sources of their food.
The Agroecology Knowledge Hub acts as a valuable repository of well-documented evidence, policies, practices, and cutting-edge scientific advancements in the field of agroecology. Furthermore, it facilitates vibrant discussions through specialized forums focused on agroecological approaches.
The 10 Elements of Agroecology
FAO developed the 10 Elements of Agroecology framework to assist countries in fostering transformative change. The 10 Elements are interlinked and interdependent and represent a simplified, yet holistic, way to facilitate the understanding and use of a holistic approach. They describe essential components, key interactions, emergent properties and desired enabling conditions in agroecological transitions towards sustainable agrifood systems.
