Cambodia’s fisheries sector has recently experienced a notable increase in fish stocks during the peak fishing season from January 2 to 10, 2025, crucial for producing Prahok (fermented fish paste). On January 9, H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, welcomed Dr. Manuel Barange, FAO’s Assistant Director-General, to observe fish migration along the Tonle Sap River. This visit showcased Cambodia's commitment to sustainable fisheries management. Dr. Barange engaged in bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening international collaboration and enhancing sustainable practices within the sector. The CAPFISH programme has made significant advancements, including protecting mangroves and improving vessel monitoring systems. With ongoing capacity-building efforts, Cambodia’s fisheries sector is poised for a sustainable and prosperous future.
