Current and potential applications of digital sequence information (DSI) show that the generation, storage, access to and use of DSI are fundamental for the characterization of all kinds of biodiversity for food and agriculture and, therefore, also important to achieve sustainable agriculture.

At its Twentieth Regular Session, the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (Commission) stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among the different legal instruments and processes relevant to digital sequence information on genetic resources for mutual supportiveness.

As requested by the Commission, the Secretariat will convene a Workshop in partnership with the Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture on:

  • the implications of CBD Decision 16/2 for research and development in the food and agriculture sector;
  • the need for capacity building; and
  • the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources for food and agriculture.

The Workshop on Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture will be held on 21 January 2027, 12:00–14:30 CET (UTC+1). It will be held online in English.

The tentative programme is provided below. The registration link will be made available in due course; readers are encouraged to check this webpage for updates.
