The Framework for Action on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture (Framework for Action) was endorsed in 2021 by the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (Commission) and the FAO Council. The Framework for Action responds to gaps and needs identified in the country-driven report The State of the World's Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture, launched by FAO in 2019. It contains a globally agreed set of priorities and over 50 individual actions to address the loss of the biodiversity of relevance to food and agriculture and ensure its sustainable use.
The Commission, at its Twentieth Regular Session, took note of Draft Voluntary Guidelines for the Implementation of the Framework for Action on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture and requested the Ad-hoc Expert Team on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture, at its Second Session, to review and finalize the voluntary guidelines for endorsement by the Commission at its next session. The draft voluntary guidelines aim to facilitate the implementation of the Framework for Action, the Global Plans of Action and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in a mutually supportive, coherent, consistent and non-duplicative way.
This information session aims to gather input on the draft voluntary guidelines and discuss how the guidelines can best support the implementation of the Framework for Action and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in a mutually supportive and non-duplicative manner. It coincides with an opportunity to provide written comments (deadline: 30 September 2025), and inputs will be used to further revise the draft voluntary guidelines for the consideration of the Expert Team, at its Second Session.
Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in all official FAO languages and the recording made available.
