Monitoring of Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture
The Commission, at its Eighteenth Regular Session, highlighted the need for the development of quantifiable indicators for the monitoring of the Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and requested that these be incorporated into the global information system under development by FAO.
In 2024 FAO launched Aquatic Genetic Resources Information System (AquaGRIS), a new public online database of farmed aquatic species and their wild relatives that is designed to support countries' efforts to transform their aquatic food systems.
