CLIMATE POLICY AND FINANCE WEEK

Climate policy and finance week

Roma (Italy), Hybrid Event, 14/09/2026 - 18/09/2026

The FAO Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB) Climate Policy and Finance Week (14–18 September 2026) will convene experts, partners, Members and FAO colleagues for a series of policy dialogues, technical exchanges, governance meetings and partnership events focused on advancing climate action, climate finance, and Loss and Damage in agrifood systems.

The programme will strengthen collaboration, foster knowledge exchange and align priorities in support of countries' climate commitments, including nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and national adaptation plans (NAPs). It will provide a platform to accelerate climate action through agrifood systems by advancing the policies, financing and partnerships needed to strengthen implementation. Through strategic dialogue, technical exchange and knowledge sharing, the week will help support policy implementation, improve access to climate finance and strengthen collaboration ahead of UNFCCC COP31.

The week will also feature a High-Level Ministerial Event to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Adaptation of African Agriculture (AAA) Initiative. As part of the UN’s celebration of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, the Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) Partnership will host a roundtable discussion bringing together global, regional, and national stakeholders to share perspectives and experiences on advancing gender equality in agrifood systems, with a particular focus on improving women farmers’ access to finance.

Throughout the week, discussions will focus on three key priorities:

  • Strengthening climate action in agrifood systems through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and technical assistance to support the implementation of national climate priorities.
  • Advancing work on Loss and Damage in agrifood systems by building countries' capacity to understand the international Loss and Damage architecture, assess climate impacts, and access technical and financial support.
  • Promoting the FAO FAST Partnership as a COP-to-COP mechanism to accelerate access to climate finance and support the implementation of climate action in agrifood systems.

This event is supported through the IMP-ACT 2030: Supporting Climate-Resilient, Inclusive and Low-Emission Agrifood Systems project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
