France has more cheeses than there are days in the year. Of these, 54 have Geographical Indication recognition, of which 45 have PDOs. By fostering market differentiation, Geographical Indications help protect diversity, guarantee added value for producers, assure consumers of the special character of what they are eating and contribute to the development of rural areas.
