Dublin – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, today presented President Michael D. Higgins of Ireland with the prestigious FAO Agricola Medal, the Organization’s highest award, in a ceremony held at Áras an Uachtaráin, the official presidential residence in Dublin.

Rome - Director-General QU Dongyu and the Swiss Confederation FAO National Committee met on 4 June 2024 at FAO headquarters in Rome. The Committee President, Dr Martijn Sonnevelt, led the conversation with the Director-General. Also present were Dr Jean-Marc Chappuis, Deputy Director-General, Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture; H.E. Amb. Krisztina Bende Permanent Representative of the Swiss Confederation to FAO and the members of the Committee.

Rome – In conjunction with the 12th Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership, FAO Director-General QU Dongyu opened an exhibition that captures how policy action and collaboration amongst actors for healthy soils has manifested in success stories across Thailand and countries.

Geneva – On the occasion of his trip to Geneva for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the Conference on AI for Good, FAO Director-General QU Dongyu signed Memorandum of Understandings with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Geneva – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today underlined FAO’s commitment and the wide-ranging initiatives it is implementing to support Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in transforming their agrifood systems. He was speaking at a reception held in Geneva concurrently with the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) taking place in Antigua and Barbuda.

Geneva - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, today visited the Union Maraîchère de Genève (UMG), a cooperative of 31 vegetable farmers, where sustainable practices have been adopted throughout the line of production, including farming, processing, packaging and marketing.

Geneva - The FAO Director-General met today in Geneva with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Gilbert Houngbo, during which the renewed FAO-ILO Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed.

Rome - Director-General QU Dongyu today thanked Members of FAO’s Programme and Finance Committees for supporting key initiatives implemented by the Organization. Speaking at the end of the 138th Session of the Programme Committee and the 199th Session of the Finance Committee, Qu also hailed pledges of increased funding as “an ongoing and strong expression of confidence and trust in FAO.”
