Thank you Simone.

Indeed, it challenging to do this abstractions for a 5 days discussion on the subject of agricultural data for smallholder farmers. Interestingly, one should be mindful of the goal (s) of this conceptualization, which is primary on food and nutrition increase in the world.

Therefore, some of the salient point I can put forward for the f2f meeting in July should address all or some of the following: 1. Literacy advocacy 2. Social infrastructural development 3. Participatory approach through stakeholder involvement in data innovation development 4. Private sector involvement as the major driver of the data access and sharing procedure 5. Baseline survey development of some of the ICT needs/data needs/technology needs of farmers that can prompt productivity in developing nations 6. Review of some of the traditional technologies available in farm communities that are responsible for agricultural data as well as the evolution of data usage in farm productivity.

Day 4: Actions to be taken in 2018-2021 to ensure smallholder farmers benefit from agricultural data in the future

Nice submission Jacques.

But a quick addition is the involvement of the data user, that is, the smallholder farmers in development of an innovative agricultural data, considering the fact that each of the climes, most especially the developing nations have both social and intellectual materials challenges in diverse manner. Hence, cohesive collaboration of all stakeholder involvement through action research procedures in data development will be key for the future.

Day 1: Major challenges from a policy legal and ethical perspective, preventing smallholder farmers benefiting from data sharing

Submitted by Samuel Abanigbe on Fri, 06/08/2018 - 11:56

Good morning all from Lagos, Nigeria. Pardon me for joining this discussion very late and this is attributed to the level of infrastructure that prompt effective access to data.

The peculiarity of this discussion in Nigeria could take some of the discussants afar backward because of the level of poor infrastructures in most rural and peri-urban communities. Most smallholder farmers who are majorly in these communities lack access to data due to poor or epileptic power supply and level of awareness and hence agricultural data and innovation take longer time to reach the farmers or might not even access. However, the causative agent of this challenge is the level of government leadership in our nation.
