Forum Forum: "ICT and producer organizations" November, 2012
Question 3 (opens 19 Nov.)
The public sector must play an important role in the sustainability of PO’s utilization of ICT. For one, the government can offer programs that are geared towards continuing or advanced education on ICT so that PO’s will be able to further sharpen their skills and keep up with the fast-paced technology. Also, the public sector can serve as bridge among PO’s to facilitate convergence and sharing of best practices. Through this, the potentials of ICT use can be even more maximized and increased productivity among producer organizations can be heightened.
Question 2 (opens 14 Nov.)
Hi Rita. I agree with you when you mentioned mobile applications for agriculture and rural development as a priority area on which producer organizations should invest in, especially considering the fact that most of these PO's are small and financially-limited. I've read a few success stories in developing countries like Kenya and Uganda, that have used mobile technology to improve how their system works, and so I believe that exploring more on the adaption of this ICT tool must be a serious consideration.
Question 1 (opens 12 Nov.)
ICT plays a very important role in producer organizations. It helps a team run the organization more efficiently and it also enables better management when used competently. This has been proven in a Hungarian case study on vegetable-fruit producer organizations that made use of various ICT tools like internet, wireless technologies, and particular software packages. The said tools and the utilization of e-marketing also helped a lot in the producer organization’s increased productivity.
