Hi Remi Thanks for your answer and the explanation on the e-kroshok project. It is indeed a good ppp model seeking to meet the needs of the farmers. and that is the most important things. Farmers' needs should be placed at the top of priorities in every innovative project (this concerns every domains where ICT is being integrated. (your response enlight me on a crucial fact. it is nice to see how the mastery of local language can play a fundamental role for the community development.) many of our farmers cannot read nor write their mother tongue it shows one of the biggest challenges awaiting for us in the development of e-agriculture and one of the crucial issues we need to address. thank you for your precious answers. best of luck for the project. As the site will be in English we will be very happy to take exemple on such a project to the advantages of our local farmers. keep connected Epiphane Benin

Hello everyone I am from Benin a west african developing country. I am excited by the progress ICT is making in the agricultural life of your countries I am sorry I don't have much successful stories to share with you. However, ICT in agriculture I think has a powerful and positive impact on Agriculture with lot of challenges as well. Water control, via irrigation systems, knowledge on the nature of the soil which determine what type of seed to sow, new farming technics, wider market accessibility for farmers, speed in communication for inland villages via mobile cell and other communication devices, dissemination of research works over website, order placement possibilities, online exchange in community to share useful information for all are issues that ICT can adress with great success. Cost-effectiveness, ICTs affordabiliy by low income farmers, illiteracy rate and lack of expertise and lack of interest from private sectors concerned with return of investment to the agriculture sector which dioes not always offer groundbreaking guarantee , side effects of ICTs in big agri-entreprise which employs a considerable human labor are some challenges. My question is What advantages can e-agriculture bring to infertile countries. (desert countries?) Thanks

Knowledge & Information is the key intervention

Hello Raj I appreciate the great interest you have for this forum. But before I can continue, let me ask you this question: How can a country with high iliteracy rate can organize, manage and sustain an agricultue entreprise. I am in an NGO called Reaching Out for the needy where we are trying to get organized the farmers around the farming activities for real human and economical development. But this seems to be impossible. the main factors empeding this is the lack of adequate techincal skills to deal with it, the lack of funds to assist farmers in-between harvest season; the high rate of iliteracy which opposes a strong resistance to change. So how can we apply the advantages of ICT to bring about some positives changes that can really improve the production system of developing countries so they can really make good benefit at a mico as well as micro level? can you link me to E-Tool? or other material on agricultural entreprise development ? Haertfelt thanks Epiphane ADJADJI Benin Wewt AFrica
