08/11/2023

The report on this year’s World Food Safety Day is out now and ready to view. The 16-page document offers a glimpse into the immense variety of World Food Safety Day celebrations across the world this year and the unprecedented number of events and activities that took place. There were over 500 events in 139 countries.

There were gastronomic and tasting events that promoted the enjoyment of food that is safe. There was a range of sports events that highlighted the health benefits to eating safe, nutritious food. And there were awareness raising events that saw organizations in many countries taking to the streets and markets to share crucial food safety information.

During conferences and symposia, food safety experts and food industry professionals discussed key World Food Safety Day topics, including this year’s theme, “Food standards save lives,” which coincides with the sixtieth anniversary of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

World Food Safety Day is jointly facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). This year, it was the turn of FAO to host the joint FAO/WHO global event at FAO headquarters in Rome and on the Zoom platform.
