Fisheries cooperatives have long existed in Guyana, having been created to empower marginalized groups and help members manage fishing at a local level. However, despite efforts over the years, the cooperative movement among fishers has struggled to expand its reach, often experiencing limitations with management, infrastructure, and business capacities.
