When women succeed, communities thrive: stories from fisheries and aquaculture

From fish harvesting and farming to processing and trade, women are important actors in fisheries and aquaculture value chains across the world. In 2023, they represented 24 percent of fishers and 26 percent of fish farmers worldwide. When we look at the small-scale sector, their presence is even more visible. According to recent studies, women account for 15 percent of the pre-harvest workforce, 19 percent of harvesters, and around half of the post-harvest sector.
