In Memoriam – Mario Acunzo, Communication for Development Officer, PSU, FAO

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear FAO colleague and friend Mario Acunzo at the end of July 2026, following a period of illness.

For many years, Mario was a valued supporter of the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) and of forest and farm producer organizations (FFPOs)  around the world. Through his expertise, dedication and unwavering commitment, he helped organizations strengthen their own communication strategies, tell their own stories more effectively, and build the skills and confidence needed to engage with wider audiences. He supported many related communication training materials,  which were not only rich in knowledge but also inspiring, practical and empowering.

Beyond his professional excellence, Mario will be remembered for his warmth, generosity and friendship. He always took the time to listen, encourage and support colleagues and partners alike. His passion for rural people and local communities, combined with his belief in the power of communication to drive positive change, left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege to work with him.

Mario's passing is a great loss to the global rural development community, and especially to the many local to global FFPOs he accompanied over the years. We remain deeply grateful for his contributions, his guidance, and the friendship he generously shared.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who mourn him. Mario's legacy will live on through the people and organizations he inspired and strengthened.

Thank you, Mario. Your work has greatly contributed to FFF’s mission in giving rural producers and communities a voice.

You will be fondly remembered.
