Mr. Usman Amjad

Organization: Agriculture Extension and Adaptive Aesearch wing, Agriculture Department, Government of Punjab
Country: Pakistan
I am working on:
I am currently serving as an Agriculture Officer (Intern) with the Government of Punjab, where I operate at the intersection of field research and farmer training. My current work focuses on three key pillars: Sustainable Crop Management: I am managing field trials to optimize wheat production protocols and training farmers on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to reduce synthetic pesticide usage in the cotton belt. The 'Inclusive Extension' Initiative: I am conducting a field assessment of the barriers faced by the 'invisible workforce'—farmers living with physical and visual impairments. I am currently piloting low-cost 'adaptive scouting protocols' and digital accessibility tools (like screen readers for agri-labels) to restore independence to these marginalized growers. Policy Advocacy: As a member of the FSN Forum and Global Goals Youth, I am working to document these grassroots insights to influence future National Extension Frameworks, ensuring they address the needs of the most vulnerable rural populations

I am an Agronomist and Agriculture Officer based in Punjab, Pakistan, dedicated to bridging the gap between scientific innovation and rural reality. With a Distinction in Agronomy and extensive fieldwork in Sahiwal, I specialize in Agricultural Extension—translating complex crop physiology data into actionable advice for smallholder farmers. My professional experience spans from serving as a Cotton Production Advisor to leading government-backed wheat yield improvement campaigns.

As a visually imimpairedpaired scientist, I view rural development through a unique lens. I am a strong advocate for 'Inclusive Agriculture,' believing that true food security is only possible when extension systems are designed to serve every farmer, including the elderly and those with disabilities. My work combines technical crop management (IPM, soil health) with social advocacy, aiming to modernize Pakistan's extension policy to be both climate-resilient and socially equitable.
