Regional Platform for the Empowerment of Rural Women

This regional platform, driven by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), serves as a meeting point to strengthen gender equality and sustainability in agrifood systems. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 5 (Gender Equality), it facilitates the exchange of knowledge, tools, and methodologies to close gender gaps and achieve more productive, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.

This space provides governments, civil society, the private sector, cooperatives, international organizations, UN agencies, and academia with an environment for cooperation to promote policies and actions that recognize and strengthen the role of rural, Indigenous, young, and Afro-descendant women in biodiversity conservation, food security, and sustainable development.

The platform offers training and technical assistance both for rural women—enhancing their access to markets, technologies, and financing—and for government officials, strengthening their capacities to design and implement gender-responsive policies.

Through courses, events, and digital resources, the platform seeks to enhance collaboration and innovation across Latin America and the Caribbean to fully empower rural women in all their diversity and, at the same time, help achieve more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems and Better Lives for All.
