The Rural Women, Women with Rights campaign is a cross-sectoral regional initiative led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with 33 government institutions, civil society organizations, UN agencies, research and education centers, and the Inter-American system.
Since its launch in 2016, the Rural Women, Women with Rights campaign has contributed to strengthening the regional agenda for equity and inclusive development through the generation of evidence, specialized reports, and high-level strategic activities on key issues such as land access and the economic empowerment of rural women.
Through awareness-raising initiatives in various countries, the campaign has enhanced recognition of the essential role of rural women, in all their diversity, in agrifood systems, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.
Additionally, through digital platforms and social media, it has shared key messages and data, organized activities at regional and local levels, and promoted awareness of their rights and challenges.
The Rural Women, Women with Rights campaign has become a key platform to amplify the voices of rural, Indigenous, young, and Afro-descendant women, fostering their active participation and advocating for public policies that guarantee their rights, economic autonomy, and a better life for themselves and their communities, in line with the 2030 Agenda.
