Women fill top posts at FAO

FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf has announced the appointment of two women to top positions in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

15 January 2007, Rome – Ms Annika Söder of Sweden steps in as Assistant Director-General in charge of FAO’s Office of UN Coordination and Millennium Development Goals Follow-up (UNC). A journalism graduate, Ms Söder previously served as Director-General for International Development Cooperation at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and State Secretary for International Development Cooperation.

Ms Lorraine Bernadine Williams, a native of St. Lucia, joins as Assistant Director-General, Knowledge and Communication Department (KC). A former barrister, Ms Williams was Minister for Legal Affairs and subsequently Women’s Affairs in the Government of St. Lucia before becoming High Commissioner to Canada for the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.
