This year, the sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place from 6 to 17 March 2023, under the priority theme ‘Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.’ The review theme for the session will focus on challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls, as per the agreed conclusions of the sixty-second session.

The International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while making a worldwide call to action to strengthen efforts for supporting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The United Nations theme for the observance of IWD 2023 is "DigitALL - Innovation and technology for gender equality”. This year’s IWD theme recognizes and celebrates the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.

The 64th session of the Commission on the Status of Women will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9 to 20 March 2020. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995), as well as a five-year milestone towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Therefore 2020 is a pivotal year for the accelerated realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, everywhere. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are invited to attend the session.

Leaving no one behind: Empowering Africa’s Rural Women for Zero Hunger and Shared Prosperity

As part of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, this side event, organized jointly by the African Union and FAO, will present findings from the forthcoming Regional Outlook on Gender and Agrifood Systems. Speakers will discuss the current state of gender equality in Africa’s agriculture and rural sectors, highlighting progress made as well as challenges remaining to mainstream gender equality and women’s empowerment in strategies for agriculture, value chains, food security and nutrition, and the management of natural resources in the context of climate change.
