Gender

Brave Ndisale, Director Ad Interim of FAO Social Policies and Rural Institutions Division

Women are the backbone of the rural economy, especially in the developing world, where they make up 43 percent of the agricultural labour force. But female farmers receive only a fraction of the land, credit, training and inputs like seeds and fertilizers that their male counterparts do.

In this video, Brave Ndisale, Director Ad Interim of the FAO Social Policies and Rural Institutions Division talks about the importance of empowering women and achieving gender equality to end hunger, poverty and malnutrition. She explains FAO's gender policy to ensure equal access of men and women to productive resources.
