Stepping up Rural Women's Economic Empowerment in Kyrgyzstan

In following a typical day in the life of a rural woman participant of the UN joint programme on “Accelerating Progress towards the Economic Empowerment of Rural Women” (JP RWEE) in Kyrgyzstan, this video illustrates the many changes that the JP RWEE has brought not only to her life, but also to the lives of those around her.

The JP RWEE is a partnership of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), and UN Women. Launched in 2012, it is implemented in seven countries – Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Nepal, Niger and Rwanda – and works to enhance the productive potential of rural women by improving their access to and control over resources, services and opportunities, and enables them to have a voice in their households and communities. In addition, the programme works to create a policy environment that enables support for the economic empowerment of rural women.
