GSP partners’ session at the 14th GSP Plenary Assembly

On 17 December, Costa Rica marked a milestone in strengthening sustainable agriculture with the official awarding of certificates to the first 11 trainers and 17 producers of the Global Soil Doctors Programme (GSDP). The ceremony was attended by the Costa Rican Association of Soil Science (ACCS), the Secretariat of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and representatives of FAO Costa Rica.

In November 2025, the 27 experts of the fifth Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) met for the first time at FAO headquarters in Rome during the panel’s 23rd session. Nominated by the 13th Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP), the panel reviewed ongoing activities, set priorities and strengthened its scientific contribution to the GSP. This work continued a few months later at the 24th ITPS session, held online in March 2026, where members assessed progress and further refined priorities for the 2026–2027 period.

The Global Soil Partnership (GSP), hosted by FAO, provides a global framework for cooperation on sustainable soil management, bringing together countries, partners and scientific expertise through a structured governance system. Within this framework, the Latin America and the Caribbean Soil Partnership (ASLAC) support regional coordination, helping countries strengthen soil governance, harmonize data and methods and improve access to soil information.
