The programme facilitated the collection and analysis of relevant data and empirical information on fisheries and aquaculture, including on social and economic features. To do so, AdriaMed promoted the standardisation of data collection methodologies and supported direct collection.

From 2001 to 2019 coordinated and supported the collection of fisheries and aquaculture related data in Albania and Montenegro, including on catch and production, working areas and operation types, social and economic characteristics. The work evolved since 2019, with the involvement of stakeholders in empirical and scientific data gathering, as well as in joint discussion together with experts and managers on data analysis results.

Data on small scale fisheries spatial distribution were also gathered in the entire area, using a pioneer approach that has become a reference in the entire Mediterranean.

Attention was given in monitoring the occurrence and spread of non-indigenous species in the Adriatic Sea through the gathering of data based on local ecological knowledge (LEK), along with scientific data.

Pioneer collection of socio-economic data on aquaculture, as well as the census of aquaculture farms in some Adriatic countries promoted by AdriaMed has been instrumental in spatial planning and for allocating zones for the several uses of coastal areas services.
