African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100)
The African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) is a country-led pan-African effort launched in 2015, aiming to restore 100 million hectares of degraded land by 2030. With 34 countries now pledging over 129 million hectares, AFR100 drives political momentum and implementation on the ground.
Hosted by AUDA-NEPAD and supported by a diverse consortium including FAO, WRI, GIZ, and others, the initiative promotes inclusive, locally driven restoration. Through knowledge sharing, policy support, and monitoring, AFR100 fosters resilience, green jobs, and biodiversity, playing a vital role in meeting the continent’s restoration and development goals.

African Union Development Agency
The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) leads the AFR100 Secretariat and has been instrumental in mobilizing political commitment across Africa for forest and landscape restoration. As the technical arm of the African Union, it provides strategic support to countries in achieving Agenda 2063. NEPAD plays a critical role in coordinating implementation, building national capacities, and supporting the AFR100 monitoring platform. Its regional presence, technical expertise, and commitment to inclusive development make it a key driver of community-based restoration efforts across the continent, ensuring alignment with national priorities and facilitating impactful partnerships at all levels.

GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit)
As a key implementing partner, GIZ brings extensive experience in sustainable development and forest landscape restoration across Africa. It supports technical cooperation, policy engagement, and private sector integration. GIZ contributes to programme implementation, capacity development, and the promotion of blended finance solutions.
Through its "Forests4Future" and related projects, GIZ provides technical know-how to strengthen restoration value chains. Its collaboration ensures the integration of community needs into national and regional restoration strategies and reinforces the visibility and scalability of restoration-based businesses.

World Resources Institute
The World Resources Institute (WRI) is a core technical partner of the AFR100 Initiative, bringing data-driven solutions and innovation to the forefront of forest and landscape restoration. It supports local actors through initiatives like the Land Accelerator and plays a leading role in monitoring and knowledge sharing across landscapes. WRI enhances countries’ capacities by developing tools, training stakeholders, and enabling access to finance. Its long-standing involvement in restoration efforts and its focus on empowering local communities and entrepreneurs make WRI a key contributor to scaling impact under the programme.
