On 15 November, the Uganda Bureau for Statistics (UBOS) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), implementing partner of the 50x30 Initiative, presented the key findings of the 2019 Annual Agricultural Survey (AAS). The presentation provided an opportunity to take stock of the important statistical information generated by the AAS 2019 on the 2019 agricultural year.

Two virtual trainings, organized by FAO, have taken place on May and June 2021, in the framework of the AGRISurvey programme in Nepal. One important objective of FAO’s AGRISurvey programme is to strengthen countries dissemination practices, including ensuring the release of agricultural survey microdata to users for analysis, research, policy design and monitoring. The programme also promotes data use activities to ensure increased and improved use of survey data to inform decision-making.

In July 2019, the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) of Cambodia – in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), undertook the first large scale survey on the agriculture sector since the Cambodia Agriculture Census in 2013. In this endeavor, the two institutions received the technical and financial support from FAO's AGRISurvey programme – now part of the 50x2030 Initiative.

Phnom Penh, 5 February 2021 – On the 9th of February 2021, the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) of the Ministry of Planning (MoP), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), will organize the Cambodia Inter-censal Agriculture Survey 2019 (CIAS 2019) Report Release Workshop.

The agricultural sector is one of the pillars of Senegal's economy with an estimated contribution of 15 percent to the GDP in 2018 and a significant portion of the population in rural area (60%) which continues to depend directly on it for their livelihoods.

FAO's AGRISurvey programme – now part of the 50x2030 Initiative –  provides financial and technical assistance to the Uganda Annual Agricultural Survey (AAS) administered by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS). In the last three years, AGRISurvey has introduced significant enhancements to the AAS in the domains of survey design, use of technology, data analysis, dissemination and use of data and key results.

FAO, through its AGRISurvey programme, joined forces with Cambodia’s National Institute of Statistics of the Ministry of Planning (NIS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) to organize the Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Cambodia Agricultural Survey 2020.

The agricultural sector has been the backbone of the Uganda’s economy for decades, employing over 80 percent of the rural population and about 64.3 percent of the working population. Agriculture is a source of food, raw materials for industries and foreign exchange given the many agricultural exports. The Agricultural Sector Strategic Plan (ASSP), the National Development Plan (NDP) II, and now the NDP III identify agriculture as one of the priority sectors for investment.

Following the launch of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s projects to support an annual survey of agriculture in late March 2019, they saw the data collection commenced since the start of July and set to be finished this week.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) representative, Mr Alexandre Huynh, and HE Hean Vanhan, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), signed an agreement for a Technical Cooperation project to support the application of agriculture survey data to policy, strategy, and program planning in Cambodia, in conjunction with the Cambodia Inter-Censal Agriculture Survey (CIAS) 2019.

Four Day Workshop for the development of AGRIS Questionnaires jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development the Government of Nepal (MoALD), Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and FAO was kicked off on 5 March 2019 in Dhulikhel.

In the context of rapid development, Cambodia needs more and better quality statistical data in agriculture and the rural sector and these data are required much faster. Timely and reliable statistics are vital for development of responsive policies and progressive agricultural programmes. Access to reliable data and information is also critical for the functionality of investment and market operations. At the same time, with such rapid economic development, Cambodia faces more and more challenges to keep up with growing demands and to ensure the effective use of natural resources especially, in an environmental friendly manner.
