Integrating blue foods into national climate strategies

Blue or aquatic foods, from oceans, rivers, and lakes, are vital to global food systems but often overlooked in climate action. Integrating them into national climate plans and the UNFCCC process is essential. These guidelines offer policy options for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), providing a framework to include blue foods in climate strategies. They outline five intervention areas and four enabling measures to strengthen implementation and monitoring of aquatic food solutions

Forum on fisheries science in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea: Scaling up science for effective fisheries management

This publication presents the outcomes and conclusions of the Fish Forum 2024, including abstracts of keynote addresses, contributions, and posters. Organized by the GFCM, the event gathered global scientists, fishers, stakeholders, and decision-makers to share knowledge on fisheries science. The outcomes are organized into three themes: better science for better advice; healthy seas and sustainable fisheries; and economic and technological innovation for resilient fisheries.

The Blue Ports Initiative – Annual Report 2023

This document presents a summary of the key activities undertaken in 2023 as part of the FAO Blue Ports Initiative (BPI). Beginning in 2019, the initiative has focused on exploring the significant role of fishing ports as catalysts for sustainable development in coastal regions. Aligned with FAO’s Strategic Framework for 2022–2031 which seeks to support the 2030 Agenda, the BPI strives for better production, improved nutrition, a healthier environment, and an enhanced quality of life for all.
Roadmap to a Blue Port

Engaging blue fishing ports in marine spatial planning

A blue fishing port is a hub for sustainable development at local, national and regional sales, and creates value accross social, economic and environmental dimensions. That is how the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) defines a port that seeks to be aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and thus considers the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its management strategy and operations.
