Description

Recognizing the complexity and the intertwined nature of climate change and the livestock sector development, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse gases (GRA), and the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Center (NZAGRC) are implementing the project “Creating the enabling environment for enhanced climate ambition and climate action through institutional capacity building.” Kenya is one of the project's focus countries with the State Department for Livestock (SDL) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) as a focal point. The organization of this national stakeholder engagement workshop is part of the project's activities at national level.  The objectives of this workshop are to: (1) raise awareness around livestock climate actions and the importance of an enabling environment to enhance livestock climate actions; (2) identify potential barriers to livestock mitigation at scale and requirements for capacity development and knowledge transfer; (3) identify climate finance opportunities and challenges; and (4) inform the development of a livestock climate change action plan.
