FAO and SSYDR partners to train Farmers’ Organisations in Guyana on capacity building initiative for Farmers’ Organizations in Guyana

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)  and a non-governmental organization, Specialists in Sustained Youth Development and Research (SSYDR) has commenced a series of capacity building exercises for Farmers' Organizations in Guyana.  under the theme "Improving the Organizational Capacity of Farmers' Organizations and Farmer led Enterprises in Guyana".

These trainings which are individually designed following a needs assessment are being conducted in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 on a number of thematic areas including finance and resource mobilization, strategic planning, good governance practices, networking and partnerships.

This partnership training falls under the FO4ACP Programme which focuses on empowering Farmers’ Organizations to build functional and operational capacities to improve their quality of services, thereby effectively participating in sustainable food value chains. The FOs identified to benefit from these trainings which will be completed in mid- April, 2023 are Central Mahaicony Perth Village Farmers Association; West Berbice Sheep and Goat Farmers Association; Pomeroon Beekeepers Association; Pomeroon Export Producers Association; Gibraltar/Fyrish Farmers Association; and Mocha Arcadia Multipurpose Agriculture Coop. The Trainings will target approximately 20 executive members of these groups who will be equipped with the tools and information to further train their membership.

The FO4ACP project is funded by the European Commission through The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and is implemented across seven Caribbean countries including Guyana.
