The EGM was organized by UNIDO and the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA), in partnership with the African Union (AU), UN-Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), and the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). The EGM serves as a platform for key senior decision makers from 20 High Impact Countries (HICs) to deliberate and come up with strategies for promoting local bioethanol industries and associated value chains, thereby achieving self-reliance and energy security as well as strengthening their commitments towards Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The meeting was held as three half-day sessions.
