Within the framework of the Brazil–FAO South-South Cooperation Programme, support for family farming seeks to strengthen business models through public procurement and expanded access to markets for food and biodiversity products, complemented by non-financial services such as technical assistance, rural extension, information and training.
These efforts also include strengthening cooperatives and producer associations, expanding access to technologies and machinery, and promoting the empowerment of rural women and the inclusion of youth. In addition, the Programme promotes financial services — such as credit, insurance and subsidies — and the expansion of digital rural extension, alongside trade promotion initiatives aimed at increasing the presence of family farming products in markets.

Work on access to healthy foods and school feeding focuses on supporting national programmes to improve both school feeding policies and the overall school food environment. It seeks to strengthen food security and nutrition policies in countries, improve menus in line with Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDGs), and increase the acceptability of school meals. Another key area of work is supporting the development and implementation of regulatory frameworks that expand access to healthy foods, including nutrition labelling mechanisms and other regulatory tools that encourage healthier food choices.

The territorial intelligence and management agenda promotes the use and integration of digital platforms and rural databases — such as land registries, family farmer registries, agroclimatic information and socioeconomic data — to facilitate access to information and improve decision-making. It also includes the modernization of land management systems, strengthening land tenure governance, as well as expanding digitalization in rural areas through infrastructure, services and connectivity. In addition, it promotes the use of agricultural climate risk zoning methodologies, contributing to more efficient, sustainable and resilient production.
Agri-environmental policies and sustainable development

Agri-environmental and sustainable development policies are strengthened through support for sustainable management initiatives, such as the ABC Programme (Low-Carbon Agriculture) and agroecological and climate-smart practices. This area also promotes actions to expand the production, marketing and use of bioinputs, while encouraging the rational use of agricultural inputs and natural resources. Another priority is strengthening preparedness for the prevention of pests and diseases — including transboundary threats — with an emphasis on emergency systems and rapid response mechanisms aligned with the One Health approach.
