The Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ABC/MRE) is responsible for coordinating, negotiating, approving and monitoring the activities carried out under the Brazil–FAO South-South Cooperation Programme, which involves various partner ministries.
With nearly 40 years of experience in international cooperation, the Agency coordinates the exchange of knowledge, skills and experiences developed by Brazilian institutions and organizations, with a focus on capacity development and mutual learning among the actors involved.
From the perspective of the human right to adequate food in schools, cooperation on school feeding is implemented through the partnership with the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE). Responsible governance of land tenure is promoted in partnership with the National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA). Through a longstanding partnership with the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming (MDA), efforts are focused on strengthening family farming through the development of key public policies grounded in dialogue. With financial support from the Brazilian Cotton Institute (IBA), the cotton value chain has also been strengthened in countries across the region.
Together with the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger (MDS), the Cooperation Programme focuses on promoting efficient, inclusive, sustainable and resilient urban agrifood systems, with particular attention to vulnerable populations. The partnership with the National Supply Company (CONAB) is aimed at strengthening public food supply systems, a key mechanism for ensuring an efficient and accessible food supply in our cities.
