SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – Forest-Related Targets and Their Impacts on Forests and People
The forest and water sectors play key roles in climate change mitigation and adaptation and are important components in the Paris Agreement. This policy brief presents recommendations together with supporting evidence from forest-water initiatives, tools, and approaches used around the world on how to work with resilient landscapes management, which is also integral to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This open-access article is the result of a study conducted on the global state of the forest-water nexus and its inclusion in international agenda. In order to better understand the forest-water nexus in a global perspective, we analyzed international frameworks that consider forest and water relationships, namely the Sustainable Development Goals and the (Intended) Nationally Determined Contributions. This analysis was combined with a study of datasets with information on the forest-water nexus, including data from the Forest Resource Assessment (FRA) 2015 and from the WRI Global Forest Watch. The findings of this paper are very interesting as they highlight the...
Water security is key to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet, increasingly the world is facing water shortages, and an estimated four billion people do not have sufficient access to safe and reliable water. The link between forests and climate is regularly considered in decision-making, whereas that between forests and water remains under-represented.  This report entitled "Forest and Water on a Changing Planet: Vulnerability, Adaptation and Governance Opportunities" constitutes the most comprehensive systematic scientific syntheses on the interactions between forests and water on the global level to date. Presenting the results of the sixth...
