Step-by-step tutorial video about the CAR tool
Background
The agriculture and land use sectors are crucial for climate action. However, translating national climate plans (NDCs and NAPs) into impactful on-the-ground implementation has remained a significant challenge for many countries. To address this gap, the FAO–UNDP Climate Action Review (CAR) Tool was developed under the Scaling up Climate Ambition in Land Use and Agriculture through Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans (SCALA) programme.
The CAR Tool enabled countries to identify, analyse, and prioritize climate solutions within their agrifood systems based on their transformative potential, thereby facilitating the crucial transition from planning to effective implementation and accelerating transformative climate action. This online training session provided an introductory overview of the CAR Tool for climate adaptation practitioners working on planning and implementation. The tool is especially valuable as countries continue to formulate their NAPs and prepare their NDC 3.0 submissions in 2025.
Drawing on practical experience and adaptable to diverse country contexts and strategic priorities, the tool guided users through a participatory, step-by-step approach to identify actionable entry points for transformative change, leveraging adaptation actions included in the NDCs and NAPs. This evidence-based approach made the CAR Tool an invaluable resource for advancing transformative climate action.
This interactive training session:
- Provided an overview of the CAR Tool and illustrated its use in Mongolia.
- Allowed participants to interact with the tool designers during a live demonstration of the step-by-step participatory approach.
- Offered guidance on how to interpret and use the outputs of the tool.
- Stimulated ideas on how to apply the tool in different contexts, including the NDC 3.0 and NAP formulation processes.
